My Passion for Climbing began at the age of Twelve

“I started climbing at the age of twelve, cycling and walking to the local gritstone crags of Yorkshire with young friends. It was a real adventure, being lost, having epics, a sense of discovery, really exciting. Those are the things that I look for in climbing now. I’m not into chasing grades. For me, climbing is about having massive adventures and amazing experiences with good friends.

Adventurous and unknown areas of the world draw me, as do the huge sea cliffs of North Wales. As my climbing has improved I have moved up through the grades to maintain a level of challenge and uncertainty. That’s the beauty of climbing, the experience can be the same for a climber pushing themselves on a cutting edge route in a far-flung corner of the world and for a twelve year old boy on an eight metre gritstone outcrop, a few miles from his home.”
